Thank you for considering this church for your very special day. The Staff of the Huguenot Church will work with you to provide a meaningful, and unique ceremony that will always be remembered with joy. We offer this Policy statement as an aid to your decisions and invite your questions.
Members of the Church of a year or longer are not charged a rental fee for any use of the church building or hall.
In recognition of the long, historic relationship existing between the Huguenot Society of South Carolina and the Huguenot Church, Huguenot Society members that are not church members are charged a reduced fee of $1,000.00 for use of the church for weddings.
For non-members the fee is $2,000.00. Please call our office, at (843)722-4385 for available dates. The office is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and we would be happy to show you the church by appointment. If you are out of town, you may view pictures of the church and Huguenot Heritage Hall by visiting our web site at www.frenchchurch.org.
The fee for use of the church includes the use of Huguenot Heritage Hall at 44 Queen Street for the bride and her attendants to dress and be photographed, if so desired. (The church does not allow rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons, or wedding receptions at 44 Queen.) Keys may be picked up at the church office at 44 Queen Street before 1:30 p.m. on the Thursday or Friday prior to the wedding. A $25.00 deposit is required for keys, which will be refunded upon their return. Please call at least two weeks in advance to set up a time to pick up the keys.
The church requires that you use our director for your wedding. Mrs. Delta Amrhein is the Director for all weddings at the Huguenot Church. Her fee is $400.00. This includes a consultation before the wedding and being present at the rehearsal and two hours before the wedding. Mrs. Amrhein may be reached at (843)849-0490 or firstname.lastname@example.org. For planning purposes, please contact her as soon as you have made the decision to use our church. Should you employ an outside wedding planner, it must be understood that Mrs. Amrhein or one of her assistants will be in charge at the rehearsal and at the ceremony.
As a Christian congregation the Huguenot Church considers a wedding to be a service of worship. Consistent with that understanding, the selection of appropriate music shall be made under the guidance and direcion of our wedding organist, George Hiatt. The fee for his service is $400.00. He may be contacted at (843)296-8901 or at email@example.com.
Please be advised that the use of pre-recorded music of any kind, including accompanying tracks, is not acceptable. Further, music requiring amplification either inside the building or outside will not be permitted. Arrangements for additional musicians should be made only after consulting with our Wedding organist.
The placement of musical selections within the ceremony shall be decided in consultation with the officiating minister.
One of our ministers, the Reverends Bryant and Guerry, will officiate at all weddings at the French Protestant (Huguenot) Church. Should you desire that another minister assist, please inform the church office and the invitation will be extended by the church. The minister's fee for a wedding consultation, rehearsal and wedding is $400. To contact one of the ministers please call the church office.
The Marriage License is to be given to the minister on the night of the rehearsal. Applications must be made 48 hours in advance of pickup at the Marriage License Bureau. They are located at 100 Broad Street (downtown) and may be reached at (843)958-5182. the appropiate copies of the Marriage License will be mailed from the church office to the Judge of Probate after the wedding.
The church requests the flowers used in double containers on the altar for the wedding be left for the church service the following day. The Sunday bulletin will announce the flowers are the gift of the (named) married couple of the day or night before unless a member of the church donates flowers.
Professional photographers and videographers are expected to comply with instructions from the wedding director and minister. We also suggest that you inform your guests, perhaps by including a request in the program, that there is to be no flash photography during the service.
RESERVING THE FACILITIES
The fee for use of the church is to be paid at the time of booking, or mailed to the church office, and is non-refundable, as the church has reserved this time for you exclusively. The only exception would be a natural disaster or death to a principal member, declared in writing to the Board of Directors. All other fees for the Organist, Director and Pastor (and any other costs incurred) must be paid by check made out to each individual and delivered or mailed to the church office for arrival at least two weeks prior to the rehearsal. We have found that wedding weekends are much less stressful for the couple and all involved when fees are paid and details handled in advance. Please note that, until the fee for use of the church is received, your wedding is not booked, only tentatively reserved. Therefore, please let us know as soon as you have made a decision.
If the time of your wedding and/or rehearsal changes or the wedding is canceled or postponed, it will NOT be validated until the church office is contacted.
The mailing address of the church is 44 Queen Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The street address of the church is 136 Church Street or on the corner of Church and Queen Streets.
